Slice of Pie

Years ago, in my role as a dance teacher and a dance mom, our local dance recital found its stage at a prestigious private school in Pittsburgh. With an annual cost ranging between $26,000 and $37,000 for their primary and secondary grades, this institution boasts a breathtaking campus—reminiscent of a college—with its beautiful buildings, rolling hills, and a state-of-the-art auditorium.

During a time when financial struggles were a constant companion, hosting the recital at such an esteemed venue made me question the fairness of life. How could some afford to send their children to this elite school while it seemed out of reach for me? It was a turning point, prompting me to view life as a cherry pie. Back then, I believed I deserved only a sliver of that pie, thinking it was all I could have. What I failed to realize was that we determine the size of our slice, and taking a piece doesn't diminish the pie's overall size. Life, much like an all you can eat buffet, offers an unending supply of pie.

This realization led me on a mission to secure a much larger slice for myself. I even attempted to join the school as an employee, hoping it would pave the way for my children to attend. Unfortunately, an interview or job offer never materialized, forcing me to seek alternative paths.

Fortunately, as a financial advisor, I can confidently say that my family and I are beginning to enjoy that larger slice. My life is richer, and I've indulged in the abundance that life offers. My future plans involve savoring even more. The truth is, if you've ever questioned whether you deserve a larger slice, the answer is a resounding yes. Let's have a conversation. Let's chart a course to fill your plate with the richness you deserve. You've earned it.
